SAN DIEGO, Jan. 29, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — The 9th annual SD Lunar New Year Festival will kick off the celebration of the important Asian holiday and bring festive cheer and prosperity, to San Diego. It features dazzling lanterns, bands, lion dances, fire crackers, and a very large selection of Asian food! The prices are good and the quality is excellent. There’s a reason why 25,000 – 35,000 people start their Lunar New Year with SD Lunar New Year Festival at SDCCU Stadium!

The SD Lunar New Year Festival operates entirely through voluntary and unpaid efforts. The dozen coordinators, staff, and over 250 college and high school students dedicate countless hours to ensure residents receive the highest quality services they deserve.

Proceeds from the festival will be used in the revitalization efforts of the Little Saigon District of San Diego. In 2018, festival proceeds help paid for the soon-to-be installed cultural landmark freeway signs. In 2017, the festival proceeds help paid for the custom-built trashcans and cultural banners.

Here are the “must-dos” at SD Lunar New Year Festival, you don’t want to miss:

Pick up your fortune-telling & lucky coin in a red envelope. The coins are often printed with two meanings, either “your wealth has arrived” or “your luck has arrived.” After reading, keep this lucky coin in your wallet to activate wealth and draw wealth to you.
Try all 8 lucky foods to ring in the New Year, such as sticky-rice, chicken, dumplings, whole fish, spring rolls, tet cake, candied fruits, and roasted melon seeds. These foods symbolize great prosperity and togetherness
